SESSION 2 - Tongji University, Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center
The newly built Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center (SAWTC) is described in the presentation. SAWTC has a full-scale aerodynamic and aero-acoustic wind tunnel, and a full-scale climatic wind tunnel. In this presentation, the background of the Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center Project and the technical feasures of each of the two wind tunnels are described.
| Zhigang Yang received his PhD from the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Cornell University in 1990. He then worked in NASA Lewis Research Center (now renamed as the NASA Glenn Research Center) as research associate, senior research associate, and research scientist for the next ten year. In 2000, he joined General Motors (GM) as a staff engineer, working both in the Vehicle Engineering Center and GM R&D Center. He has been a faculty of Tongji University since 2005, holding the Changjiang Chair Professorship endowed by the Ministry of Education. During his tenure at Tongji University, he was the project manager for the Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center Project, and has become the director of the wind tunnel center upon its completion in summer 2009.
His technical specialties are vehicle aerodynamics and aerodynamic design, fluid mechanics for propulsion systems, CFD, turbulence modeling, and the stability analysis of fluid flows. He is a member of the SAE Vehicle Aerodynamics Committee, National Fluid Dynamics Committee of China, and the editor of “International Journal of Aerodynamics”. |
