Tri Models, Inc
Tri Models has been producing wind tunnel models for the aerospace community since 1972. Our reputation is built on a strong commitment to providing our customers with a high quality model, on schedule and at a fair and reasonable cost. Tri Models is the ONLY Certified Preferred Supplier of Wind Tunnel models to the Boeing Company as well as a Lockheed STAR Supplier.
In 2005, we were awarded the Boeing Supplier of the Year award, in which we were selected from more than 5200 suppliers to the Boeing Company. The result is a stronger, more efficient and cost-effective resource for all of our customers. We have gained a significant presence in Europe via customers testing in ONERA, NLR, DNW and ARA wind tunnels. Many of our custom-ers rely on our expertise in joining their test requirements with the capabilities of the wind tunnel. Our customers include the ‘seasoned’ wind tunnel groups of various air-framers to the first-time novice, who requires our assistance with such basics as model-to-tunnel integration, balance selection, tunnel positioning and model sizing. We remain a privately owned, small business that specializes in precision machining and precision models.
The core of our business is wind tunnel models and our commitment to the customer results in repeat business. Lo-cated in Sunny in Southern California we have access to a large pool of qualified suppliers for specialty processing. Coupled with our vast machinery resources and expert staff, Tri Models has the ability to meet most any challenge.
We provide a full range of services including model design, strength analysis, N/C program-ming, fabrication, inspection and welding. Tri Models has a vast wealth of experience in all types of wind tunnel models as well as ground test hardware. In addition to the typical aerody-namic models such as force & moment, jet effects and high lift we also provide a full compli-ment of propulsion models such as isolated inlet, articulating high speed inlets, powered lift, nozzle and hot gas models.

Recent changes to FAR Part 25 regulations have resulted in a large amount of icing certification testing. These models are part wind tunnel model, part aircraft where certain sections are built to complete aircraft specifications and are even FAA Conformity Inspected. These models have anti-icing or deicing systems provided by suppliers such as Goodrich or Cox and Company, integrated into them and are tested in Icing Research Tunnels such as NASA Glenn, Boeing and CIRA. Tri Models has produced icing models for the 787, 747-8, ERJ 195, LJ200, Poseidon P8 and others.

In 2007 were selected to join the Lockheed/Pratt & Whit-ney FALCON Program team charged with designing and building the worlds largest Freejet Test model for testing at the US Air Force’s APTU Facility in Tullahoma Tennessee. The model is a large heat-sink model with an articulating inlet system capable of Mach numbers up to 6.0 and temperatures exceeding 2000°F. It includes a custom built, hot-firing engine and hundreds of instrumenta-tion sensors. The model was successfully tested in 2009 and was featured in three separate articles in Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine.

We realize that there are many options when it comes to the design and fabrication of a model or ground test hardware. Whether you build the model in-house or subcontract, there are many advantages and disadvantages that must be considered. . Wind tunnel models are our core business, a fact that drives us to the latest tech-nology, methods and machines. We believe in sticking to what you do best and not diversifying into fields that draw you away from your core competencies and expertise. We remain commit-ted to that vision of our place in the industry.
