Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel CIRIVE

Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel (CIRIVE) is located in the academic environment of the Politecnico di Milano University, operating since 2001. The facility represents two things, being both a purely research tool and, secondly, a modern instrument for high-technology industrial applications offering advantageous reciprocal synergies.
Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel has two different test rooms that make it possible to offer the widest possible range of test arrangements and alternatives.
î Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel
The Boundary Layer test section has dimensions of 14m x 4m, maximum wind velocity of 16m/s and turbulence index <2 percent. The 35m long, constant section test room enables the setting up of upstream passive or active turbulence generators to simulate the atmospheric boundary layer or harmonic wind. A specific device for the twisted flow generation has been designed for sailing yacht tests. The test section is equipped with a 13m diameter turntable.
î Aeronautical Wind Tunnel
The aeronautical test section is 4m wide, 3.84m high and 6m long. It is possible to perform tests in a closed test section and in an open jet. The maximum wind velocity is 55m/s and the turbulence level is less than 0.1 percent. The test section is equipped with a turntable (diameter 2.5m) and a traversing system behind the model's location, suitable for making wake measurements. There are several model supports equipped with a positioning system in order to vary the incidence angle.
Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel has capabilities and experience for testing in many wind engineering and aeronautical fields:
î helicopters
î aircrafts
î road and railway vehicles
î buildings and large roof structures
î suspension and cable-stayed bridges
î sailing yachts
î sports (bike, luge and bobsleigh)
î wind energy
